Sound familiar?

A beautiful room you can't always enjoy.

Conservatories are designed to bring the outdoors in. But all that glass can trap solar heat on bright days and lose warmth quickly when it's cold.

☀️ Summer

Too hot by lunchtime?

Sun through the roof and windows can make the room uncomfortable — even when the rest of the house feels fine.

❄️ Winter

Too cold to sit in?

Glazing and lightweight roofs can mean rapid heat loss, making portable heaters work hard.

🏡 The missed opportunity

A room sitting empty

It could be your reading room, dining space, home office or place to unwind — more often throughout the year.

Here's the good news

A properly sized reversible air conditioner actively removes heat in summer and delivers heat in winter. It can improve comfort dramatically, although very sunny or poorly insulated conservatories may also benefit from blinds, shading or roof improvements.

The solution

One discreet system. Heating and cooling.

A wall-mounted split system has an indoor unit for comfort and an outdoor unit to transfer heat. Unlike a fan, it can actually lower the air temperature.

🌬️ Cool when the sun's out

Active cooling with temperature control, rather than just moving hot air around.

🔥 Warm on cold evenings

Heat pump technology provides heating from the same unit, subject to suitable capacity.

📱 Simple everyday control

Set your preferred temperature; Wi-Fi and scheduling are available on selected models.

Will it cool the adjoining kitchen too?

Possibly some connected open-plan space, but we won't promise one conservatory unit will cool the whole house. Open doorways, room layout and total heat load need assessing.

Get the size right

Conservatories aren't ordinary rooms.

This is where many quotes go wrong. A small, south-facing conservatory with a glass roof can need more cooling than a larger, well-insulated bedroom.

🪟 How much glass?

Glazed walls, glass roofs and older glazing can increase heat gain and heat loss.

🌞 Which way does it face?

South- and west-facing rooms can experience particularly strong sun exposure.

🏠 What roof is fitted?

Glass, polycarbonate and insulated solid roofs behave differently.

Small, medium or large? That's all we need to begin.

We won't ask you to calculate square metres. Send photos and tell us roughly how big the space feels. We'll check the roof, orientation, layout and heat load before recommending 2.5, 3.5 or 5.0 kW — or another appropriate solution.

What's included — and what could cost extra?

These are standard back-to-back installation prices, including VAT, for suitable straightforward jobs. Longer pipe runs, condensate pumps, extra electrical work, special access and unusual mounting requirements are assessed and quoted separately. The lowest-priced capacity isn't necessarily right for a conservatory.

Practical installation questions

But where does the unit actually go?

Most people worry about the glass walls, outside unit and visible pipework. We'll look at the practical options before proposing an installation.

📍 Indoor unit

A suitable solid wall — often the original house wall — may work. We check mounting strength, clearances and airflow.

🌿 Outdoor unit

Placed outside where it can breathe, be serviced and meet relevant noise and installation requirements.

💧 Drainage and electrics

We assess a safe power supply and condensate route. A pump or extra electrical work may be required.

Glass on every side?

Send us photographs. A conventional high-wall unit may not be suitable if there's no structural mounting space, and we'll tell you rather than forcing a poor design.

Answers to real homeowner questions

Conservatory air conditioning FAQs.

The practical questions people ask before investing in a more comfortable conservatory.

Will air conditioning really cool a glass-roof conservatory?

It can, but the system must be sized for the solar heat gain. A glass roof and strong sun can create a much higher load than the same-sized ordinary room. Shading or roof improvements may also help.

Will it heat my conservatory in winter?

Yes, a reversible heat pump can provide heating. The system needs to be sized for winter heat loss as well as summer cooling, particularly in older or lightly insulated conservatories.

How much does conservatory air conditioning cost to install?

Our standard VAT-inclusive single-split installed prices start at £1,345 for a Haier 2.5 kW system. A conservatory may need a larger unit or additional installation work. We'll confirm a conservatory-specific quote.

Is 2.5 kW enough, or will I need 3.5 kW or 5 kW?

It depends on the roof, glazing, sun exposure, room volume and insulation. We don't choose capacity from floor area alone; we'll assess the heat load before recommending a system.

Can you fit a unit when all the conservatory walls are glass?

Sometimes there is a suitable section of original house wall or another appropriate mounting position. We need photographs to assess whether a wall-mounted unit is practical.

Where does the outdoor unit go?

Outside in a well-ventilated position with suitable access and pipe routes. We consider noise, drainage, structural support and the manufacturer's installation limits.

Will it also cool the kitchen if the conservatory is open-plan?

It may help an adjoining connected space, but the total heat load and airflow need assessing. One unit should not be assumed to cool every adjoining room.

Is split air conditioning better than a portable air conditioner?

A properly installed split system is generally a more permanent, quieter and efficient solution than many portable hose-based units. Suitability and costs depend on your circumstances.

Should I insulate my conservatory roof first?

Roof insulation, shading and improved glazing can reduce the heating and cooling demand. We can discuss these factors when assessing the required system capacity.

How much electricity will it use?

Actual consumption depends on model, set temperature, outdoor weather, glazing and usage. For illustration, 4 kWh at 25p/kWh costs £1. Cooling capacity in kW is not the same as electrical input.

Can I control the unit from my phone?

Selected systems offer Wi-Fi control. Haier Revive Plus includes built-in Wi-Fi; features on other models depend on the specification.

Will the air conditioning solve condensation or damp?

Cooling can remove moisture from indoor air, but damp and condensation can have building or ventilation causes. Air conditioning is not a guaranteed remedy for those problems.

Do I need planning permission for the outdoor unit?

Planning rules depend on the equipment, property and installation. Some qualifying air-to-air heat pumps may benefit from permitted development rights subject to conditions, including noise requirements. Other installations may need permission; check with your local planning authority.

Does adding heating affect conservatory building regulations?

Conservatory exemptions can depend on separation from the main house and independent heating controls, among other conditions. Electrical work and any alterations must comply with applicable requirements. We can flag questions for Building Control where needed.

How long does installation take?

Some straightforward single-split installations can be completed in a day. Complex pipework, drainage, electrical works or difficult access can take longer.

Do you cover my postcode?

We work across Birmingham and surrounding West Midlands areas including Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Tamworth and Lichfield. Send your postcode to confirm availability.
